Pier-2 Art Center, located in Taiwan’s Kaohsiung City, is a must-go place for art. The city is just a short train ride away from National Cheng Kung University where I studied, so I spent many Friday evenings enjoying the city’s lively art scene. Pier-2 is right on the water and every street is filled with large public art works. There is no shortage of vibrant and creative wall murals. In addition to what you can see wandering around the streets, there are numerous contemporary art galleries to browse as well!

Temples are numerous and another chance to experience Taiwanese art and culture. If traditional art and architecture capture your interest you can take a short walk to any of the neighborhood temples and see all they have to offer. The exterior architecture is colorful and vibrant and inside you can find religious wall carvings, sculptures, and murals.
Museum of Contemporary Art Taipei[/caption]
Museums in Taiwan are plentiful and a great way to see works by a variety of artists. Taipei City is home one of the world’s largest art museums, the National Palace Museum. My personal favorite is the Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA) Taipei. The museum is mid-sized, which makes it perfect to spend just an hour or so looking around. With constantly shifting exhibitions, there is always new and exciting contemporary work to experience.
